I am pleased to announce:

That after over 35 rich and rewarding years in academia, I am embarking on the next chapter of my career.

In 2023 I will be launching a consulting practice offering my expertise to architecture and design firms, educational institutions, cultural organizations and individuals. I will bring decades of learning, teaching and mediation to my consulting practice that can touch every aspect of design. My unique and layered approach is grounded in visual literacy and close reads.

My decades in architecture as a practitioner, educator,

and world traveler seeking an understanding of other cultures and their architecture, enables me to operate on multiple platforms that often merge into a single and distinctive tapestry. My methodology employs linear and non-chronological approaches to history, working forward and backward in time—and hands-on

experience—to bring a deeper understanding of the nature and principles of architecture.

CLOSE READS CONSULTANCY

will bring my expertise and breadth of knowledge together into a single and richly-woven tapestry to engage with a select and diversified clientele. The tapestry’s threads are grounded in decades of experience:

My approach puts emphasis on visual literacy, an all-too-often overlooked discipline in the technological age, which opens one’s eyes to what initially may appear invisible, but through intensive looking or close reads becomes the key to strategic thinking, architectural problem solving, and brings a new awareness to projects of cultural significance.
